Thompson center serial number dates4/1/2024 ![]() and occasionally I land one that goes into the safe to stay. And after much research on the web, all I can find is that West Hurley stopped at serial nr: 29585 in 1997. I got the 1927A1 a few years ago, and its serial nr: 31458. It just comes down to 'what ever cranks your tractor'? I buy and restore quite a few C & R military. I own to Thompsons a 1928A1 in the 49k serial range and a 1927A1. He sand bagged me! It ruined me and I can't seem to pass one up if it is priced right.Īs for breaking the hammer or frame parts? I have never known anyone to have one break so I would not worry about that too much? However if you have a verified 'collector' with all matching parts and are young enough to set it in the safe and leave it that way for a few years it will make you some bucks down the road a ways. My first one was given to me by a buddy after I gave up hunting with " wheel guns" due to hearing loss. I use both the contenders and encores almost exclusively for all hunting and a lot of plinking. I would have to take inventory to see how many barrels and accessories I have for them. I only have 7 or 8 contenders along with three Encores. Since we have so many other Contenders, I may just leave this one as is for the time being.Ĭlick to expand. Even includes the wrench for the shot tube on the barrel. For instance, recently acquired this gorgeous 1969 vintage Contender with a factory 45/410 vintage correct barrel which shows no signs of having even been shot. I will pay a bit more for an early model if it is in great shape and all the parts are vintage correct. Most of the research I did (internet) is showing large serial numbers or serial numbers with letters. Serial Number is 666X (X number not listed by me). I have not located on the internet a way to decode the S/N to get the year or anything. I bought it from my brother, who bought it used from a guy at work about 15 years ago. I have sent Thompson Center a couple of emails with a rifle serial number asking the age of my rifle etc. I collect Contenders to shoot, but I also enjoy both old and newer vintages for the sake of nostalgia. I have a Thompson Center Flintlock (Right Handed) that I need some info on. Then, too, unless you have the original box, you still don't know if the barrel on your Contender, even if vintage correct, was the barrel that was originally sold with the gun. Even with octagonal barrels, there are differences as to vintage, so it can get a bit involved knowing which octagon barrel is correct for a specific vintage of frame. This last one can be tough on a Contender, because, over the years, so many parts have been swapped and interchanged. Outside of that an early Contender is usually considered just a Contender.Īs with any gun, condition and original factory configuration also matters. Yes, the early ones do have some collectible value, but it's mostly within Contender circles. Manufacturer: Thompson Center Model: Hawken Cougar Serial Number: 1870 Caliber Info.
